Snow Skis
The original snow skis were nothing more than wooden planks strapped to the riders. The oldest evidence of snow skiing can be found in primitive cave drawings that have been date to the 5000 B.C. time frame.
Of course snow skiing has come a long way since the days of pre-historic Nordic hunters using them during their hunting trips and for transportation.
They found out early that skis are a great method to travel across the snow and were essential to their survival.
The Nordic race gets the credit for terming the phrase “ski”. This is actually a word that used in Norway and comes for the old Norse language word “skio”. It means split piece of wood or firewood.
It was during the early twentieth century that ski technology made great strides in the skis and bindings that allowed the riders to make quicker and faster turns. Originally the bindings were separate but in 2000, ski manufacturers staring creating skis with bindings attached as a single integrated system.
When buying snow skis, you will want to do a little research first to make sure you buy the right pair of skis for you. Your skill level will play a large roll in the type of skis to buy.
Beginners are better off starting out with longer skis since they are easier to turn. Shorter skis are better for aerials, jumps and tricks.
You look for a pair of used snow skis if you’re looking to save money or with the cost of new skis being pretty low, you could pick up a pair of news relatibly inexpensively.
