Snow/Ski-pants: What is the metal hook in the liner for?

I bought a pair of Burton snowboard pants. The liner that (i think) you’re supposed to tuck inside the snowboard boot – right by the ankle there is a metal hook. It must serve some purpose but all it was doing to me was digging into my ankle. Anybody know what it’s actually for?

IS it normal to fall down while learning snow ski?

im learning ski and some days im amazing, everything controlled…sometimes i just fall down the whole day….and pain is too much…i scare of being paralysed.
im taking private lessons..and when i get speedy and out of controll my instructor loses my track and cant follow me so i scare and fall down….
